How lovely to be doing nothing, and then rest. ~Spanish proverb
Spring has come, blowing, blossoming, blooming, spewing out allergy-inducing tree sperm that drips on cars and yellows our stuffed up noses and lungs.
This is the time of Spring Fever. Indolence. The bears have rolled out of hibernation, blinking sleepy in the sunlight and wondering where the two little newborn cubs they’d not noticed before came from; and children are rolling Easter eggs in colored dye; and my mind is rolling in contented circles,quite blank. Are you staying in the present moment, this jewel of our life?
Being a workaholic myself, I have to keep reminding myself of the importance of la Dolce Far Niente.
If you spend a perfectly useless afternoon in a perfectly useless manner, you have learned how to live.
Lin Yutang (1885-1976)
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
Sir John. Lubbock (1834-1913)
All of the animals excepting man know that the principal business of life is to enjoy it.
Samuel Butler (1835-1902)
If by life you were deceived,
Don’t be dismal, don’t be wild!
In the day of grief, be mild
Merry days will come, believe.
Heart is living in tomorrow;
Present is dejected here;
In a moment, passes sorrow;
That which passes will be dear.
Thank you so much. I need this today, as I’ve just heard of the suicide of a young woman, a friend of my daughters’. Thank you, Marina. Sophy
Dear Sophy,
Thank you for the reminder, we so often need to remember that living IS enjoying the moments in between the action. How do we forget this?
With much appreciation,
Lori
Thank you for the reminder to slow down, during all the spring clean up and getting gardens ready for summer. Remember to breathe
Dear Sohpy,
The most difficult part for me is doing nothing. I would like to do something to have fun and enjoy myself. There is an adventurer inside me who wants to see all and I can’t do that if I am doing nothing.
I loved the post, until the next one.
Thanks, Sophy, a good reminder.
Doing nothing is doing everything
Waiting you will find
Keeping your inner door open
Allows the flow of the deity.
